Motorised blinds sold on their own are a convenience product — a remote instead of a cord. Motorised blinds integrated into the house are a climate control system, and that is a different proposition entirely. Overheating in summer is largely a solar gain problem, and the cheapest way to solve it is to stop the sun getting in rather than cooling the room afterwards.

01 · The logic
Sun position and room temperature, not a timer
South and west-facing rooms drop their blinds when the sun comes round and the room is heading above target, then lift them again once it passes.
In winter the logic inverts: blinds stay open on bright cold days to collect free heat, and close at dusk to hold it in. Roughly speaking, the glazing stops being a liability.

02 · Hardware
Wired motors, because nobody recharges a stairwell blind
Wired means no battery changes on a blind three metres up a stairwell, and no dead blind six months after handover because nobody could reach it.
Where wiring genuinely isn't possible on a retrofit we use battery motors — but we will tell you which ones you'll be recharging rather than letting you discover it later.

Blinds that join in with everything else
Blackout blinds close when the cinema starts. Bedroom blinds lift gently with the morning alarm.
Everything downstairs closes when the house arms at night — which is a privacy benefit at home and a presence-simulation one while you are away.
