The house reacts as a house

NFC fobs and PIN codes on the doors, a video doorbell at the gate, cameras where they are actually useful, and the alarm wired in — all reporting to the same Miniserver and the same app.

Ring the doorbell and the music pauses while the nearest panel shows the camera. When the last person leaves, the house arms itself, drops the heating and checks the windows are shut.

It keeps working when the internet does not

If your broadband drops, the doors still unlock, the cameras still record and the alarm still arms. Footage is stored locally, so there is no per-camera cloud subscription attached to it.

Remote access is available if you want it, but it is a feature you switch on — not a dependency you are stuck with.

Smart Home Security & Access Control — common questions

Is there a monthly fee for smart home security?

Not with the way we build it. Recording is local to the property, and the app is free for every household member permanently. Most consumer systems charge £5–£15 per camera per month for cloud storage plus a subscription for the doorbell — on a four-camera house that's comfortably £400–£700 a year, indefinitely.

Does it still work if the internet goes down?

Yes. The whole system runs locally on a Miniserver inside the property, so doors unlock, cameras record, the alarm arms and the doorbell rings at the wall panels regardless of your broadband. What you lose while it's down is remote access from outside the house — everything inside carries on.

Can I give someone temporary access without a key?

Yes, and it's one of the most-used features. You can issue a PIN code or NFC fob that only works on specific days, between specific hours, or until a specific date. A cleaner's code can be valid Tuesday mornings only. A holiday-let guest code can expire automatically at checkout. All of it is revocable instantly from the app.

Can you integrate my existing alarm and cameras?

Usually. Most professionally installed alarm panels expose contacts we can wire in, and any ONVIF-compatible IP camera can be brought into the system. Cheaper consumer cameras that only talk to their manufacturer's cloud generally can't be integrated — we'll tell you at survey which of your existing kit is worth keeping.

Where should cameras actually go?

Fewer cameras in the right places beats more cameras everywhere. Approach paths, entry doors and any blind side of the property are worth covering; wide shots of an entire garden rarely produce usable identification. We site them at survey for face height at the point someone would enter, and check the night-time performance rather than trusting the datasheet.

Is this a monitored alarm system?

It isn't a police-response monitored contract by default — it alerts you directly. If you need monitored response for insurance purposes we can install a compatible alarm panel alongside and integrate it, so you keep the monitoring contract and still get the automation.

How much does smart home security installation cost?

A typical package covering keyless entry on two doors, a video doorbell, four cameras with local recording and alarm integration starts around £2,400 ex-VAT. Adding access control to more doors, gate automation or a larger camera count scales from there. We quote fixed prices in writing after a free site visit.
